Which is more expensive SS304 or SS316?
Stainless 316 contains more nickel than stainless 304, while 304 contains more chromium than 316. Stainless 304 usually consists of 18% chromium and 8% nickel. Stainless 316 is more expensive because it provides a higher corrosion resistance, especially against chlorides and chlorinated solutions.
How can you tell 304 steel?
If the color changes from yellow to pink, we are in the presence of a stainless steel containing molybdenum (AISI 316). If the yellow stain disappears, we are in the presence of a stainless steel that does not contain molybdenum (AISI 304).
